Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how English Handbook (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo (if available) from that provider to create and secure your account.

Profile photo. If you choose to update your profile picture, the App requests access to your camera or photo library only to let you take or select a new photo.

Learning data. We store the words you look up, your learning and mastery status, reminders, flashcard review history, book listening progress, and your credit balance, so your progress can sync across sessions.

Purchases. Subscriptions and credit purchases are processed by Apple, Google, and our billing partner, RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment card details ourselves.

Usage and diagnostic data. We use Firebase Analytics and crash/error logging to understand how the App is used and to fix problems.

Push notification token. If you enable notifications, we store a device token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you reminders you’ve asked for.

Advertising identifiers. If you are on the free tier, we show ads through Google AdMob, which may use device advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads. Premium accounts do not see ads.

2. AI-Generated Explanations

Word and phrase explanations are generated using AI language models. To generate an explanation, the word or text you look up is sent to our backend and, in turn, to our AI processing provider. Please avoid looking up sensitive personal information. AI explanations may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete and are provided for language-learning purposes only.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account and sync your progress.
• To generate AI-powered word explanations you request.
• To process subscriptions and credit purchases.
• To send reminder notifications you’ve enabled.
• To understand usage patterns and improve the App.
• To show ads to free-tier users.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy: Google Firebase (authentication, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications), RevenueCat (subscription and purchase management), Google AdMob (advertising), and Google / Apple Sign-In.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers listed above, as necessary to operate the App, or when required by law.

6. Data Retention & Account Deletion

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings within the App.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the App, or by contacting us below.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above when we do, and material changes will be communicated within the App.
